The written word (Logos) cannot be changed or taken away from. The spoken Word (Rhema), which comes from the Holy Spirit, must confirm or align with the written word. I find that many people simply don’t have knowledge of all that the Lord has hidden within His word. (See 1 Corinthians 2:14)The voice of God speaks in power to bring forth life and light which reveals our identity (destiny); it brings clarity and purpose into our lives; it brings a shift and change from the Heavenly realm into the earthly realm and most important–it brings us into alignment with His will.
Gifts of prophecy are used to edify and comfort us. It brings new direction and purpose into our life. Prophecy also brings about a shift to everything that comes against the knowledge of Jesus Christ. There are many scriptures, in both the New and Old Testament, that speak of prophecy. Amos 3:7, states Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants the prophets.
He tells us we are to have faith in the Lord and we will be upheld; have faith in His prophets and you will be successful (see 2 Chronicles 20:20).
Here are few other scriptures that reference prophecy:
1 Corinthians 14:1
1 Thessalonians 5:19-2
Revelations 19:20 tells us that Jesus Christ Himself is the Spirit of prophecy. Nowhere in the scriptures does it tell us that prophecy ceases to exist after Biblical times. In fact, Joel 2:28 tells us that in the last days, He will pour out His Spirit on all people. He said your sons and daughters will prophesy, your daughters will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.
Did you know that you too are prophetic? He said the sheep know me and hear my voice (see John 10:27). But there are some of us that were born with this gift as it was knit together with us in our mother’s womb. Did you experience things as a child that you shouldn’t have known? Did you have vivid dreams that came to pass? A call on our life that He reserved for such a time as this. You can ask the Lord to give you this gift. He said above all else desire prophecy (see 1 Corinthians 14:1).
However the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy but Christ comes to bring life as noted in John 10:10. Therefore, Satan wants to keep the body of Christ in bondage with veils over our eyes that keep us from seeing and hearing His voice clearly. It is a spirit of fear along with a religious spirit that attempts to put God in a box.
For example, many want to confuse the enemy’s work through a medium or psychic (which is knowledge obtained illegally through the spiritual realm but can never bring actual revelation–only information) with that of revelation brought through the voice of God to His prophets. When they illegally enter the spiritual realm without Jesus, it is divination or witchcraft. They desire to lead people away from Christ (see John 4:2-6).
This is why we test every spirit with His Word. To do this we need to put our natural mind aside and ask the Lord to illuminate our heart, soul and mind to receive all that He has for us. We can start by inviting His Holy Spirit to live inside of us and become Lord of our life.
Deuteronomy 18:22 If what a profit proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message of the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
1 Corinthians 13:9 We know in part and we prophesy in part.
The Lord gives different gifts to the body of Christ. Some of us may have a stronger gift with prophesying to the nations whereas someone else may be better at giving a personal prophecy. But one thing remains and that is we are all growing and learning in our journey. The Lord speaks in parables and in riddles and He wants us to search it out. He wants us to open up ourselves to hear His Holy Spirit speak to us individually.
I believe we get a measure of the Holy Spirit when we first ask Him into our hearts. However the disciples received a greater measure of Him (His glory) at Pentecost (See Acts 2:1-3). Do you want more of Him? He wants to take us from glory to glory, which means we should desire growth and change! We don’t want to remain the same (See 2 Corinthians 3:18). I want to become more like Christ everyday. How about you?
He is making all things new! See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19 ( also Revelations 21:5 and Isaiah 65:17)
